Save the Date: “Triumph and Tragedy” — An Evening of Powerful Symphony Music on February 7

Mark your calendars and join the Lake County Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable evening of music that explores the full range of the human spirit.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 7:30 PM, we return to the James Lumber Center at the College of Lake County for our winter concert, Triumph and Tragedy — a program filled with drama, beauty, and emotional intensity.

This concert brings together three incredible works that each tell their own powerful story:

Beethoven — Overture to Egmont

The evening opens with Beethoven at his most heroic. The Overture to Egmont was written for a play about resistance, courage, and the fight for freedom. From dark beginnings to a blazing, victorious finale, this music is a thrilling journey from oppression to triumph — the perfect way to begin the night.

Mozart — Piano Concerto No. 20

Featuring Hannah Zhang, piano (Northwestern University)

We are delighted to welcome rising star pianist Hannah Zhang as our soloist for Mozart’s dramatic and deeply expressive Piano Concerto No. 20. This is one of Mozart’s most beloved concertos — stormy, elegant, poetic, and full of emotion. Hannah brings sensitivity, intelligence, and remarkable artistry to this demanding work, and we are excited to share her performance with you.

Tchaikovsky — Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique”

The program concludes with one of the most moving symphonies ever written. Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony reaches into the heart with its sweeping melodies, emotional intensity, and hauntingly beautiful final movement. It is a piece that stays with you long after the last note fades — tender, powerful, human.

This concert will be led by guest conductor Donald Schleicher, Director of Orchestras at Northwestern University, whose expressive and insightful musicianship brings every performance vividly to life.
